Daddy and his girls on a board - so amazing!
Wednesday evening - down to the maze in Kapalua.
Maya liked to cross over from one side to another.

Kalia followed the path all the way to the end- and with determination.
Kalia in her new dress that daddy got her - he had been promising a new purple
dress (with rainbow colors).
Kalia makes it to the end!
Me and the girls take a break.

Maya has been cutting all four molars - sleep getting a little better, but teeth are still trying to come through all the way. All four have a portion through the skin - so on our way to feeling better. Maya had her 15 month check up, she is 22 lbs. 11 oz and is 30 1/2 inches, she is perfectly average at 50% for everything, height, weight and head size.

On Wednesday (which is Erik's only day off right now) we were hoping for some surf as they predicted, but unfortunately it was pretty small. So we went to Lahaina to look for a purple with rainbow colors dress for Kalia. Kalia has a closet full of clothes, but she rotates between the following dresses: 1) "Long Long" - pink/white patterned dress 2) Orange Dress 3) Rose 4) Purple/Pink Dress 5) Princess Dress 6) Blankey tied around self to be a princess dress. Well, Purple/Pink dress is a size 2 and is small and the zipper is acting up - so Daddy promised her that he would buy her a new purple dress and she mentions this fact very often. So wednesday was the big day and we all headed down to search for the perfect dress. Anyway, Kalia & Erik were really happy with the dress - Kalia since it was exactly purple with rainbow colors and flowy and Erik because it does look a little tie dye. We didn't get any waves, but Erik got to buy his little girl a pretty dress and loved it. We also had a relaxing lunch at Kimo's - well, we had lunch at least.

Maya's new words: dog, mine, owee (sp?- you know ouch). She's funny because she goes to the toilet now and says "no,no". I'm trying to tell her things she CAN do instead of saying "no", but it's just reflex to say "no" as she is reaching into the toilet water. Oh and I think she's discovered that "owee" is much more effective than just crying, since she will say it whenever she is simply experiencing something she finds unpleasant, like getting her diaper changed.

Monday, although I was up 4 times the night before (2 times with each girl), I did take the girls to the otherside to run errands. I know, Erik thinks I am a masochist too. Kalia used to always just take the first nap on the way and then afternoon nap on the way back and hopefully transfer. But then Kalia never had an older sister singing princess songs at the top of her lungs the whole way over to keep her from napping. And then when I try to give kalia a snack to keep the volume down, then maya really won't nap if she knows there's food in the car. Maya loves her snacks.

Lauren just had her baby!!!! Oh my gosh, waiting all day and texting mom over and over again. No details yet, but had to have c-section after 2 hours of pushing - poor thing. Cole has arrived!

morning videos

Here's a couple videos from morning play. I have so many photos and things to update - we've been non-stop. More to come!

This video of Kalia doing "walk around the garden" to Maya was like the 12th time she had done it and Maya just kept coming back for more.

re-purpose project & dancing queens

So our beach umbrella died and I decided to do a little re-purpose project & took it apart and made some bags. I am using one for wet swimsuit transporter (and other sandy items) from the beach and the other as a trash bag in the car. Taking Lo's advice and going to use the rest of material for grocery bag- lots of material, it was a big costco size umbrella.

The other day, instead of heading out like we usually do in between Maya's naps, Kalia wanted to stay at home. We made muffins and I put on a variety of songs for the girls to have a little dance show. This one is one of Kalia's old favorites - it used to make her come running!

It was just really cute & fun to watch.

the bay & dress up

sunset at the bay
we picked up uncle greg and headed up north for some rock collecting
and exploring. Taking turns keeping maya from charging down the cliff.
Kalia led us for a hike up some giant hills and picked us all some flowers.
Maya went up to everyone and anyone and asked them to pick her up.
kalia & erik watching the waves
dressed up at anderson's 1st birthday
maya rummaging through deveraux's closet for things to try on
kalia patiently waited until it was her turn to wear this dress
and I believe it was worth every minute - look at her face!

So Maya is just really talking so much and can copy so much. She says "bye, bye" and the other day I swear she said, "bye, bye see ya". Tonight while I was making dinner, I guess she saw her milk cup in the fridge from earlier and she kept asking for something. She says something that sounds like "a ba?" and that usually means she wants something. I tried to give her one of the cucumbers I was cutting and she shook her head no and then she pointed to the fridge and put her hand on the handle, so I opened it and she pointed to her milk. But she's very good at communicating. She also says "please" if I say it first and give high fives and says "five".

So even though I know I shouldn't, I just can't help myself and when I'm telling Kalia that she's doing something wrong or giving her a warning- I do the shaking my pointer finger thing. Anyway, Kalia has picked up the habit, so she shakes her pointer finger when she's not happy with me or telling maya that she's not supposed to be doing something. So tonight in the bath, Maya was stepping on the drain thingy (for the millionth time, she constantly is letting the water drain) and Kalia was telling her (with finger action) not to step on the drain and let all the water out again. Then Maya turns around and with pointer finger out and shaking, she gives Kalia a piece of her mind (in Maya language, but we definitely got the gist). Kalia and I both started laughing hysterically and because we were laughing, Maya started laughing hard and loud too. Oh, it was so funny, I can't even tell you. It's pretty scary when you see all your little habits reflected in the actions of your children.

Oh, they were so cute this morning. Kalia had a little house set up on her bed with pillows and she made a little place for Maya. Kalia was giving maya's arm soft tickles. Gosh she is such a loving sister, when she's not trying to torture her little sister.

april fun & the hula girls

scarlett & kalia at barnes & noble
These two girls sat in this chair for so long and looked at princesses books. At one point scarlett said "princess phillip" (sleeping beauty prince) and the girls couldn't stop laughing. Even on the way home Kalia said it and had a good laugh. Scarlett's mom was going to take her to the Wizard of Oz Ballet and she said she could take a friend and she picked Kalia to go. It's really cute to see her friendship developing.
Kalia and daddy had some time and went on the Ironwood Hike.
Playing outside in Kalia's carseat, waiting for Scarlett to come and pick her up for the show. It was so neat to see her go with Scarlett and her mom to a little event, just like a big girl! Wish I could have gone (can you imagine me chasing Maya around the entire theatre).
kisses
So my mom sent the girls these little grass skirt and we played dress up.
I just love Maya's smile in this one.

Oh before I forget, Maya will stand on something or climb on something and stand up and say "Ta Daaaa". She's also been singing the beginning of the song from Sleeping Beauty "I know you...(I walked with you once upon a dream)", since she hears it all day long from someone else. She is seriously dancing queen right now. If she even hears music then she bounces and does this dance where she turns in a circle with her hands up. Today Kalia and I had a good laugh watching Maya rock out, she had her head going, doing the bounce and then spin in a circle over and over.

Yesterday we went to the otherside and met my friend Adrienne and baby joel for some shopping. There really is something about throwing in a non-sibling to make things a little more peaceful. They had a ball at old navy, they were running around and having so much fun, chasing each other, wrecking havoc. Kalia found a pair of ruby red slippers just like dorothy's that were actually my size and was dying for me to buy them, but really I couldn't imagine when I would wear them. We asked Kalia if for Halloween she would be a scarecrow so that I could be dorothy and she looked at us like we were crazy. Of course, she will be a princess for halloween. Maya pulled down tons of sunglasses. Then at K-Mart both Maya and Baby Joel pulled off display fixtures to hang the packages of curtains (no items on rod) and banged them against the metal floor of the display - oh, fun. It was pretty crazy, but somehow seemed ok when another family was involved.

random stuff

OK Auntie Kim, I seriously tried to find some good videos from Kalia's last dance class (parents watch saturday), but your brother may be the worst video taker- ever. Hope he doesn't read this part. He just keeps thinking it's recording when it's not and then recording when he doesn't realize it's on. Anyway, enough about that. Here's the best video we got, but it's cute because after her dance it shows kalia being kalia and straightening out her scarf and laying it out like a blanket on her legs. It's just so kalia.

So Maya is sick again. But she is still just go, go, go. I was carrying her the other day and we went the fridge and she saw her cup and said, "mil"(milk) and then she saw "chee" (cheese) and "apple". She's also signing "more" and saying it at the same time- so of course I can't deny her when she does that. It's usually just for more water in her watering can or something like that. Maya has also been a little too friendly - she just goes with anyone. I lost her at Barnes and Noble twice the other day. First she goes off with a tourist family - the little girl just said "hi" to Maya and Maya decided to follow them. Then I was feeling a little mandarin and I turned around and she was gone - found her on the other side of the kids section with some other kids. Talk about totally different, Kalia still won't leave the area I'm in.

Kalia has learned to skip. It's actually something we've been working on and she's gotten the rhythm of it - too cute.

easter 2010

OK, I was wrong it was an Metropolitan Museum of Art ABC Book, here's some Apples Kalia drew, she also drew some Boats and a Cat.
Saturday morning, I left the house as soon as Maya woke up to do some Easter shopping on the otherside. Erik took this photo just after Kalia woke up - Maya cuddling her sister during milk/morning show.

Easter Morning
We skipped the Ritz egg hunt for family time - so worth it!

Outside hunt for real eggs.
Inside hunt first thing was for the treat filled eggs.
Who's gonna get this one?

Watching Kalia.
At one point Kalia had 1 more egg to find and Erik was holding Maya, Maya wriggled down and went right over to the egg hidden in the carrots and picked it up and put it in her basket.
Eggs where are you?

Maya's piggy tails

We had a nice mellow Easter. The day before Kalia picked carrots from our bonzai carrot plant for the Easter Bunny (Erik's idea). We colored eggs, although Kalia did more directing than coloring. Erik used the extra egg dye to do a tie dye easter shirt. We had a really relaxing Easter day, I tried out my new mini muffin pan and made mini corn bread muffins with bacon & cheese. Then some mini frittatas with goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes (thanks mom for leaving the sun dried tomatoes). There's just something fun about eating minis for breakfast/brunch. We thought about going to the Ritz egg hunt, but couldn't motivate to get out of our PJs and just had a fun family day at home.

Kalia and I have been doing puzzles again. Even though it's hard with Maya (and getting harder by the day) we've been moving everything to higher ground - the dining room table.

So even though I usually just put Maya in onesies since she's such my active/climber girl, she actually has been wanting to wear dresses like her sister. She nearly fought Kalia over her pink tutu skirt this morning, so I got out her white one and she was happy as can be. I put her in a cute little polka dot dress the other day and she patted her dress and had the biggest smile on her face. I just wasn't expecting her to have such an opinion on what she wears!

Egg
Maya only picked up 1 egg and was totally happy!
Opening Kalia's eggs

Maya hanging out with some kid and his dad,
she just wanted to hang out and check them out.
I didn't go get her because she would just keep going back
until she was done checking them out.

They decorated baskets and then took them up for the egg hunt.
Huge turn out and a lot of fun!
Veronica and her family (friend from UCLA) were in town,
dinner at Hula Grill.
The Christie's
Erik and the girls
Look at Maya - that's how she was the whole dinner - wild.
It was way past her bedtime and she was just all fired up and
didn't stop moving for a moment.

So Maya is anti hair clip right now, I'm finding them everywhere. She prefers the wild, unkept look. She really doesn't care if her hair completely covers her face like Cousin It.
