rainy day

We had a rainy day on tuesday and we did a bunch of Thanksgiving crafts. Erik even got into it a little bit. I have to admit, I was sad when it stopped raining and was hot again in the afternoon.

Tutu and Grandpa arrived yesterday afternoon, but left this morning for a craft show in Hilo. They will return on Sunday morning. I told Kalia that they were coming, but I kept saying, "Tutu and Grandpa are coming, but then they are leaving for two days..." just so she wouldn't be upset when they left. But I guess she really didn't understand that they were coming. When they came in the door, she was sooooo excited. She was so excited and running around and showing them everything in her room. She was really hyper, bouncing off the walls for a long time. This morning they left before she woke up and she went into their room and just looked around, I told her they would be back in two days and she just got really quiet. We had our moms group at the beach today to distract her.

Oh, a couple of phrases that Kalia has been saying that she definitely picked up from Erik: "That's crazy!" and "Oh, come on". She uses the second one after I tell her that something was the last time, last one, time to go etc. and then she says "oh, come on mommy".

This baby has been extremely low, I keep trying to move her up. I think I'm going to spend the next two months in the bathroom. We've been trying ouy names for the baby on Kalia, but she wants to name the baby "kalia".

Anyway, just getting ready for a week with Tutu and Grandpa. Aunty Lo, Uncle Vere and the kids arrive on wednesday night. We'll have a full house for Thanksgiving!

park, baby shower & the dangers of recycling

queen of the slide

Our mom's group ladies gave me and Jessica a baby shower on Friday. It was really fun, Kalia had a great time and was even chasing the boys around. Erik wasn't too happy to hear that, but I was glad she wasn't attached to me like she is sometimes. We had a BBQ and some games, the kids just ran around-- it was really nice.

We still walk to the park on Sunday mornings and Erik picks us up, it's a pretty good walk and I'm just not up for the hill at the end of the return right now. Her favorite thing is to walk up backwards up the slide and run completely naked on the beach. She's having a naked thing right now.

We've had a fun week, trying to keep busy and tire her out for her naps. Tuesday we went to the Marriott pool again, it was packed! We really had to search for a few chairs! Erik surfed in front of the hotel and we cruised around the pirate ship and pools. Wednesday we went to Slaughterhouse beach for snorkeling (Erik and I took turns) and sand castle building. Thursday, there was no daycare at the gym, so we went to the park for a couple of hours, Friday we had the baby shower and today we had a birthday party. I just say the words "Birthday Party" and she says "cupcake" or "juice".

Erik went to recycle our cans/bottles today at the little recycling center in our condo complex and somebody left a broken bottle lying out and he cut his leg open. We thought he could just wrap it up, but it kept bleeding and we pretty large. He wanted me to butterfly it, but I cleaned it and just couldn't see how I could possibly do it. I told him he had to go to the drs.-- 7 stitches later, we're both glad he went. He's pretty bummed- 10 days out of the water and no great story, "yeah, I was recycling some cans..."

Kalia's been kinda crabby lately- lack of sleep, I think. Yes, we are still missing our "hee hoo". Erik told me this morning that we should write to the crib/toddler bed company because they obviously put the opening on the wrong side of the bed, because that seems to be the only side she is waking up on lately. Oh, he probably doesn't want me to write this, but we were talking about baby names the other day and he said "what about Dora?" He was being serious!!!! I just said, "you mean like Dora the Explorer?" I thought that was pretty funny, I mean what kid doesn't know Dora the Explorer?

my little van gogh

Kalia has been painting and she's really into it. We are currently working on a fall wreath - painting some leaves I cut out. I tried to paint on one and she told me "no mommy, do it like this." I guess I was using the wrong method. She has also requested we do a little mixed media, markers first, then painting.

Erik has been borrowing our neighbor's skateboard and has become quite the hit of the neighborhood. It's been a good lesson in taking turns, since everyone, including Erik wants a turn. She woke up yesterday saying, "No, Bianca ride my skateboard."

Dare I put into writing....sleep has been getting a little bit better. Night time, she has been going down almost like usual, but not sleeping in like before. We do have a little extra comfort time before bed and tell her a made up story about "a little girl" before we leave. Naps--still working on that, but I always had issues with naps.

Kalia's favorite show, her absolute obsession is "Word World" on PBS. She is always pretending to be one of the characters. Lately she has put on her chef hat and she does a "cooking with chef Kalia" show or uses a magnifying glass to be "on the job" looking for the "case of the missing pie".
