are you so impressed?

OK, for some reason I have no control over the photos and I really don't have time to figure it out. First photo is a shot of Erik and the girls at the beach. We've been having some nice beach days and we both surfed s-turns on monday - it was really fun. It was really low tide, so we had a nice beach for the girls (well, kalia since maya was under the umbrella).

Oh the photos of Maya - we put her in the same outfit we had Kalia in at 3 months and did a photo shoot. I will look for those photos and put a comparison up, just didn't have time to get the archived disk and look. The photo of Maya on the changing table has a good view of her hair.

A couple of things...while Kalia is "waiting patiently".

The other night Erik was working and I was trying to read bedtime stories to kalia while rocking maya to sleep. I guess I was reading a little too softly because kalia said, "mommy, can you use your outside voice?"

Yesterday we went to the library, Kalia has been pretending to go to the library this past week, so I finally took her. Maya didn't get the memo on how it's supposed to be quiet in the library. Or maybe I didn't get the memo about not taking your baby to the library during nap time when the overhead lighting is too much fun to look at that she doesn't want to go to sleep. At first she didn't understand that we could take books with us and while we were checking out the books, she said to me, "mommy, i am waiting patiently." The library woman was very impressed with her.

Speaking of being impressed. Kalia has been incredible lately, coloring so expertly with markers, staying the lines, it has been very impressive. I guess we've been saying that a lot lately because after she colors something in she says to us, "mommy are you so impressed?" She is also getting really good at puzzles, real puzzles. She's been a machine lately, working and working on puzzles. Are you so impressed?

Tutu and Grandpa will be arriving tonight but after the girls are asleep. So I told Kalia that they would be here when she woke up tomorrow. So she told me at 11AM today "mommy, it's getting dark. I'm feeling a little sleepy, it's almost time to go to sleep". Pretty cute.

We stayed home today for the first time in I don't know how long, to try to get Maya some sleep and so far no over tired melt downs before naps. Poor thing, at least I'm trying to be on top of it, even if it means more tv time for kalia. It's hard to put her down for a nap when someone is screaming at the parrot (who repeats everything you say) that daddy got her for christmas. And better than leaving Kalia to color with markers while I try to put Maya down - to come back to red marker drawings all over the coffee table (it is glass) and some drawings on her white pants and hands. What else is there to do when Mommy is in the other room?

Tea Picnic

Ever since Auntie Kim visited, Kalia has been really into "tea picnics" in her room. The other day we set up her babies for the picnic in their little chair and couch and I did a little interview with her.

Maya's napping getting better and she's much happier for it. She laid on the bed with me for a long time today and we had a nice talk.

earth day

The girls and I met Erik up at Honolua Bay on wednesday. Erik got to surf in the morning and we met him to help pick up some trash and share some muffins that Kalia helped me make. Then home for story time and naps (except that Kalia just had quiet time, since she was anti-nap yesterday). The nice thing about quiet time is that she is in her room for an hour and we get a really early bed time. I got a little time in the afternoon and went for a swim at flemings. It was really pretty down at the beach, surf looked fun and crowded and I dived under about 30 waves. It felt really good to get in the water.

I'm really trying this week to catch Maya when she starts her sleepy signs. I think I let her get a little overtired too much, since I'm also watching Kalia and she has been really, really fussy lately. She is definitely overtired! I don't know if my back can take another late afternoon/ early evening carrying her around in the sling. I think her night sleep is being affected, she is really restless, since she goes down screaming.

Maya was screaming after her bath the other night and Kalia and I were laughing because it seemed impossible that so much noise was coming from such a small little person. Well, Kalia was laughing because I was making faces, she just had her hands over her ears. She's also really loud when she talks too. Maybe she's just learned that you've got to be loud to be heard around here (with a toddler to compete with).

Had some time with Maya this morning, Kalia went to play at Celena's house for a couple of hours. Finally had some one on one time with Maya. She's getting really social!

Mom and Dad will be here in a week!

April Fire Station Trip

I actually made a list this week of things to write on the blog, because every time I sat down at the computer I would forget all the things I wanted to write. We've been having computer problems and it seemed like all was lost, it wouldn't even let me boot up the computer. We had someone come over to look at it today and it turns out it was just stupid spyware taking over the computer. I was seriously having anxiety yesterday without a computer. It's silly, but I just didn't feel...whole knowing that I couldn't get online. Erik tried to remind me that we used to not have computers and we lived without instant access to the internet. I would not listen, I did not want to hear about such a dark time and to think that he expected me to live even for a little while like that. But we're back!

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!!!!

The first few photos are of our play group trip to the fire station. I love the photo of Maya, since she always has no idea where we are and she's always in her little car seat, she really could be any where. It was really fun at the fire station -- I really enjoyed the part where they took apart the old BBQ with the jaws of life, it was really cool. They also used this thing...the one you use when they can't get into your house with an axe or chain saw...it's the one they use next and it's really loud and they cut through a cinder block with it...and Maya slept through the entire thing. The girl wakes up whenever Kalia is a little too loud at home, but she sleeps through the firemen cutting through a cinder block and BBQ 20 feet from her! Go figure!

Maya only got up once last night!!!!!!! She slept 5 1/2 hour and then 3 1/2 hours!!!!! Woooo Hooo!!!! Maya needs sleep, if she gets the sleep she needs during the day she is an angel, she's sooooo smiley and talks so much and is sooooo easy. But wake her up once from a nap too early and she is not happy and it can throw her off all day. She is going to be one scary lady when she grows up, she is not afraid to tell you she is unhappy. Today was one such day, she spent most of the late afternoon/evening in her happy place -- the sling, since she was over tired. Kalia really was great towards the end of the day and helped me since I was starting to lose my mind around bedtime.

Kalia has been getting really good at "coloring in the lines". She has been on a coloring page rampage, she really is getting better and better. I really give credit to this Kumon coloring book she has, it has pictures all colored in except for a white circle where she needs to match the color and color in. I think it really taught her what to do. Anyway she has literally colored about 15 pages in the last two days and getting really good. We've been coloring this Dora coloring book, she's been coloring Dora and I only get to color Boots.

The other day Maya was on her play mat and I was doing something in the other room and I came back because she was crying. She was crying because someone was pulling her hair and it was her own hand. She always pulls her hair when she's nursing, but she was pulling it really hard. It was pretty funny.

The other day we were outside playing and Kalia was being so funny. She was racing her shadow and riding her bike around. Then she pushed her tricycle across the grass and parked it in the bike rack. I don't know it was really cute. She really had to work to push it all across the grass and then she stuck it right in with all the other big bikes...it was cute. We normally keep her bike on our lanai and not in the bike rack.

Maya really does like her big sister Kalia. She has been giving her big smiles when she sees her and trying to talk to her. I always think she'll be overwhelmed having an almost 3 year old on top of her, but she always ends up smiling. Although the full body hugs have been a little much lately.

Kalia is always repeating parts of books or shows or songs. The other day Erik and I heard her saying this big sentence and ended with "in 1732". 1732 is the year that George Washington was born from her George Washington book that her cousin Taylor got her. It was just funny, the way she said it in a sentence. Still one of her favorite books...the story of george washington.

Today Kalia said "I'm sad, our puter is broken". Puter = Computer. I wonder where she heard that from....

Easter 2009

family beach day - we packed the boards, but it was flat so we went to mile marker 14 and kalia loved it...the water was shallow and no waves so she felt free to play in the water by herself. maya at the beach -- she really had no idea where we were.

kalia laying in the sand pretending to paddle into a wave and then standing up to surf.

oh, i just accidentally erased the paddling photo...

maya on easter with her bunnies and sleeping with her new lovey that the easter bunny brought her.

kalia holding maya, her new favorite thing to do.

kalia's easter egg hunt. she did not want to pick up the real eggs, only the eggs with something inside and then only wanted the ones with treats (m&ms) in them.

me and the girls

We had a great easter. Erik wanted us to go to church, so we did. Kalia's favorite part besides telling us all to clap to the songs was that she got 2 jelly bean filled easter eggs. In the morning we had the girls baskets set out and kalia and erik did a note to note to find easter eggs hidden around the house. After Kalia's nap we did an easter egg hunt outside. I had to go after Kalia and pick up the real easter eggs, since she wanted nothing to do with those. Then in the evening just before sunset we took the girls down to the beach and set up an umbrella since it was raining on and off and collected shells. We made a little shell offering.
I guess I just need to write on this blog how Kalia doesn't go number 2 in the potty, because that night she went and the next day too! Is this TMI? Oh, well.

Trying to get a little more sleep in the morning...yea right!

Decorating Easter Eggs at home.

Friday Easter Egg Hunt in Kaanapali!

We've had a really busy week with Easter eggs hunts and we decorated Easter eggs today. Kalia is really into it this year and pretends to find easter eggs around the house or wants me to hide her empty eggs around the house (I've been putting a couple pieces of popcorn or cereal inside and she says "oh, cereal!" "oh, popcorn"). Thanks tutu for Kalia's Tinkerbell easter egg decorating set, she LOVED it! Although she calls it "twikerbell" and yes, aunty kim we are still listening to the song from tinkerbell on repeat in the car. There was another Easter Egg hunt in Kaanapali today and we went and had a lot of fun. Kalia was very excited about all of her treats!
Maya has been really smiley and making lots of sounds. She really smiles when Kalia comes up or gets a little scared. I guess when you've spent your entire life with a 2 year old invading your personal space - it's really no big deal. She is really a mellow baby...until you make her mad then she goes from 0 to 10 in no time. I'm pretty sure that Kalia never cried as loud as Maya does when she's cold after her bath. But besides that she really just hangs out. She watched us have a dance party in the living room yesterday afternoon. I think maybe she thought it was more entertaining than her mobile, but she never let it show. Kalia was really showing us some moves -- she was taking the whole thing very seriously and even told us we were dancing too fast at one point.
Kalia has been making me feel a little bi-polar these days. How can someone so sweet, who says the cutest things and is so giving one minute push you to the edge of a cliff the next? She was telling me tonight before bed "i love you so much mommy, you are my best friend. I give you kisses and hugs" and she was cuddling so much with me. Just now she just screamed like someone was in her room with a knife--just to see if it would make us come...
Potty training is going really well. We really haven't had an accident since Aunty Kim left and that was almost 2 weeks ago. However, we also haven't pooped in the potty since Aunty Kim was here. I put a diaper on Kalia for nap and bedtime and she poops every time that diaper is on...but at least no accidents.
Hopefully we'll get our beach day tomorrow, the weather has been really overcast and rainy. I got to surf on Tuesday afternoon and it felt great. Looking forward to Easter, Kalia will be really excited to hunt for eggs.
