Welcoming 2011 by spending the morning in Kaanapali for the second year in a row.
Erik worked New Year's Day again - so we went down to play in the sand and water and have lunch with Daddy at Leilani's.

Uncle Pat was in town and Erik brought him and Uncle Greg over after dinner.
Doing some sparklers- since we missed out the night before.
(Well, the girls & I did sparklers down at Duke's for Henry Kapono,
but Erik had to work).
Since the ban on fireworks started today 1/2/11 - thought we'd get our last hurrah in!

Today- Small s-turns
Kalia got to catch a wave with daddy
The girls played while I got to paddle out and then Erik took Kalia out
Maya and I sat and watched and ate pretzels
It will be Maya's turn soon enough!

Coming back in-
I pulled a total Erik today - they caught a great wave and I thought I pushed record, but at the end of the wave, when I pushed the button to stop, I actually pushed it to start recording.
Now I really can't say anything to Erik about his video recording skills...

Happy New Year! I can hardly believe that 2010 is over and now we are already 2 days into the new year. It's always such a whirlwind after Christmas. Unfortunately Erik had to work New Year's Eve. I took the girls down to Duke's for Henry Kapono and they saw some friends down there. Sydney & her parents were down there and our surf friends Lisa & Zolten were there and with sparklers! The girls ran around, ate and played- it was a great night and we were home and snug in bed (or they were) by 7:45pm. I have to admit it was feeling a little anti-climactic sitting at home the only one awake at 8pm. I ended up waiting for Erik to come home and celebrate the arrival of the New Year!
Looking back at 2010- it's been a good year and a year with a lot of changes for us. The most obvious change would be our girls growing up and their relationship developing. Of course Kalia has been a great big sis to Maya, but now they are playmates, allies and at times worse enemies.
Kalia has really grown in the last year- she's a kid now, not my baby anymore (although she still likes to act like my baby sometimes). She has formed her own friendships and is really figuring out how things work in the world and how she fits in. Kalia's imagination is truly amazing and it just continues to grow- she told me a story today about a whole group of animals and their roles in a kingdom. It included all the details of their jobs and names- she was thinking about it all during her rest time.
Maya is just amazing, she really has an infectious personality. She gets so excited about things and people and is so loving. She has truly become her own little person, with definite opinions about things and is learning how she can affect people and the things around her as well. Those second born are pretty smart! Her language is amazing and really copies anything she sees or hears. Unfortunately last night that was an imitation of Uncle Greg doing this surfer dance saying "Shaka Kalikimaka".
Anyway, it's late and I'm rambling. Happy New Year- wishing you all the best in 2011!
