Easter 2009

family beach day - we packed the boards, but it was flat so we went to mile marker 14 and kalia loved it...the water was shallow and no waves so she felt free to play in the water by herself. maya at the beach -- she really had no idea where we were.

kalia laying in the sand pretending to paddle into a wave and then standing up to surf.

oh, i just accidentally erased the paddling photo...

maya on easter with her bunnies and sleeping with her new lovey that the easter bunny brought her.

kalia holding maya, her new favorite thing to do.

kalia's easter egg hunt. she did not want to pick up the real eggs, only the eggs with something inside and then only wanted the ones with treats (m&ms) in them.

me and the girls

We had a great easter. Erik wanted us to go to church, so we did. Kalia's favorite part besides telling us all to clap to the songs was that she got 2 jelly bean filled easter eggs. In the morning we had the girls baskets set out and kalia and erik did a note to note to find easter eggs hidden around the house. After Kalia's nap we did an easter egg hunt outside. I had to go after Kalia and pick up the real easter eggs, since she wanted nothing to do with those. Then in the evening just before sunset we took the girls down to the beach and set up an umbrella since it was raining on and off and collected shells. We made a little shell offering.
I guess I just need to write on this blog how Kalia doesn't go number 2 in the potty, because that night she went and the next day too! Is this TMI? Oh, well.

Decorating Easter Eggs at home.

Friday Easter Egg Hunt in Kaanapali!

We've had a really busy week with Easter eggs hunts and we decorated Easter eggs today. Kalia is really into it this year and pretends to find easter eggs around the house or wants me to hide her empty eggs around the house (I've been putting a couple pieces of popcorn or cereal inside and she says "oh, cereal!" "oh, popcorn"). Thanks tutu for Kalia's Tinkerbell easter egg decorating set, she LOVED it! Although she calls it "twikerbell" and yes, aunty kim we are still listening to the song from tinkerbell on repeat in the car. There was another Easter Egg hunt in Kaanapali today and we went and had a lot of fun. Kalia was very excited about all of her treats!
Maya has been really smiley and making lots of sounds. She really smiles when Kalia comes up or gets a little scared. I guess when you've spent your entire life with a 2 year old invading your personal space - it's really no big deal. She is really a mellow baby...until you make her mad then she goes from 0 to 10 in no time. I'm pretty sure that Kalia never cried as loud as Maya does when she's cold after her bath. But besides that she really just hangs out. She watched us have a dance party in the living room yesterday afternoon. I think maybe she thought it was more entertaining than her mobile, but she never let it show. Kalia was really showing us some moves -- she was taking the whole thing very seriously and even told us we were dancing too fast at one point.
Kalia has been making me feel a little bi-polar these days. How can someone so sweet, who says the cutest things and is so giving one minute push you to the edge of a cliff the next? She was telling me tonight before bed "i love you so much mommy, you are my best friend. I give you kisses and hugs" and she was cuddling so much with me. Just now she just screamed like someone was in her room with a knife--just to see if it would make us come...
Potty training is going really well. We really haven't had an accident since Aunty Kim left and that was almost 2 weeks ago. However, we also haven't pooped in the potty since Aunty Kim was here. I put a diaper on Kalia for nap and bedtime and she poops every time that diaper is on...but at least no accidents.
Hopefully we'll get our beach day tomorrow, the weather has been really overcast and rainy. I got to surf on Tuesday afternoon and it felt great. Looking forward to Easter, Kalia will be really excited to hunt for eggs.

maya video - she's camera shy

Just before I took this video, she was talking away, but as soon as I got the camera out, she didn't want to talk.

auntie kim & uncle jay's visit

sheraton pool

Sorry, it's been a while again. Maya has been very smiley and talking (making lots of noise). She just was hanging out in the co-sleeper this morning, while I tried to sleep and Erik went over to see her and she gave him a huge smile.
Oh, quick Kalia story before I forget. I've been working on Kalia asking for thing "nicely" instead of demanding them, "please, may i have some..." "mommy, will you please..." I always ask her "how do you ask nicely"? The other night I was giving Kalia a bath and I asked her to hand me the shampoo and she said to me, "how do you ask nicely mommy?"
Kalia and Maya's Auntie Kim and Uncle Jay are here staying at the Sheraton and we've seen them every day. Kalia has been very happy and not lacking any attention. The other day on the way to go pick them up to go surfing (yes, I got to go surfing and had lots of fun and did my happy dance and everything) Kalia said, "I love Auntie Kim".
We've been going to their pool the past couple of days and Kalia has been in heaven. She's been swimming with her floaties a little and going down the slide with mommy and daddy.
In our play group there are 6 new babies, soon to be 7 and we put the newbies down together at the shower for Shannon (photo above), plus photo of all the kids.

march days

super kalia

huge set at flemings

Maya in her sling

We finally had 1 day of sun - we went to the park and played in the sand and water. Kalia's friend Bianca left the island and we went to lunch at Leilani's with her family. We will miss them! Kona storm today, so we are mostly at home. We've been out every day this week it seems and so it's kind of nice to be at home. I did my first solo trip to Safeway with both girls and it was very successful - especially since we went to Barnes and Noble first and Kalia played with trains, read books and got a special snack in the cafe. We met with our play group at baby beach yesterday and despite traffic in Lahaina, there were so many moms and kids. There were 4 brand new babies too!

The weather cleared up a little and Erik took Kalia to look at the huge surf. We went last night to watch the waves at Flemings. We watched a couple of boogie boards battle their way out in the surf and finally the one guy who looked like he might actually make it out, lost his board on a big set and then the whole beach watched him try to get back in -- he made it in, but it was pretty intense to watch.

Maya has been very alert, she just loves her mobiles! Kalia and I have been reading a black and white picture book to her that she really looks at. She's been making quite a bit of sounds. Maya's been doing great out and about, she will sit and look at the scenery for a while, which I'm not used to since Kalia would never sit there, and still will go to her happy place in the sling. She's actually taking a nap right now, since it's actually quiet with Kalia out with Daddy.

Kalia had a good day yesterday going potty in the potty -- we'll see how it goes. Maya had a good night of sleeping, actually went 3 1/2 hours and then 3 hours (with Erik having her in the living room at first for a while), I feel pretty rested.

maya is 6 weeks old!

Kalia continues to love to hold and help with Maya. The only thing is that she always wants to hold Maya, when she's sleeping, hugs when she's eating and Maya doesn't ever have a quiet place to rest. Sleep at night is still hit or miss, Maya is going a little longer - 3 hours, sometimes a little longer, but she still has her grunting nights.

We are getting a toddler bed from our neighbors (Kalia's friend Bianca is moving to California), but so far Kalia does not want to get a new bed-- so we may be buying Maya a new crib. We'll see how it goes. I've even suggested letting Kalia pick new sheets - Tinkerbell? Since she loves that movie. But so far no bites. Potty training still hit or miss. She tells us every night when she's in the tub when she has to go and goes on the potty, but during the day she is asking for her diaper to go.

Maya is doing great, she's been sleeping great out. It has been really windy/rainy. We went to the park the other day and it was really windy, but she slept great. She also sleeps great at Barnes and Noble for story time...for now.

I had my check-up with my OB and I'm cleared for the water - but the water is looking really cold right now! Since Maya was born, we have had some really rainy, cold weather. She is living in her footed PJs- I don't know if I ever put Kalia in those!
