Wow! I've been seriously neglecting this space- it's been a pretty busy
August! Maya started at the Pre-School at Kapalua and is adjusting well.
She did go through a few days where she didn't want to go, but the last time
I picked her up, she didn't want to go. She was playing with a little girl named
Sky. Uncle Mike said that they are a funny combo, Sky isn't very verbal
and Maya - well, she just need someone to listen to all she has to say.
Last week Maya insisted that I pack her lunch in a big sandwich
tupperware, her sandwich is so small that usually I use these small
tupperware squares, but "all the kids" have the big sandwich container.
She even agreed to a bigger sandwich to have the container,
whereas Kalia was just fine with her small container since that meant
she had a small sandwich. She admitted at the end of her pre-school career,
that she had the smallest sandwich in her whole class.
Kalia also started 1st grade and according to Kalia, "1st grade is not like Kindergarten,
there is no rest time and lots more work". She has already had two spelling tests - see the
1st one below, yes, I'm bragging and despite someone telling me that there's only
one way to go after getting 100% on her first test- she made a lateral move on her 2nd!
Kalia has been busy, we started a new Hula class with Auntie Kathy
on Saturdays and Soccer. She has still needed and asked for her down time,
where she is currently obsessed with paper crafts. She is endlessly making
paper clothes for her My Little Pony dolls, homework folders and sleeping bags for
her toys. She made Maya a cheerleading outfit out of paper (see below)
She made me an outfit (no, I did not take a photo), pom poms, paper fans,
endlessly coloring and cutting. Small scrapes of paper are all over our house
and her fingers are always multi-colored from the markers.

Maya and Kalia exploring up north! |
Makamaka'ole Hike
Bamboo Forest
Hiker girls!
Hiking
Kalia charged the whole way- all the river crossings,
Maya was a trooper, although we had to carry her 3/4 of the way.
3 1/2 hours round trip, including our stop for a swim
at the waterfall and lunch.
Great adventure day, I really do feel like we're
able to do so much more with them!
We made it to the waterfall and swimming hole!
Doesn't this photo just exemplify their personalities?
Look I was actually here too!
I took the girls to the duck pond by myself one afternoon.
It was hot and challenging, but we made it!!!
At one point I had both in the stroller and pushing them up hill,
yeah, that lasted like 2 minutes.
Kalia's 1st day of pre-school
She has her own desk and to be honest,
she wouldn't smile because she was embarassed
I was taking a photo!
The classroom
1st day of class is out and they got popcicles!
Kalia & Scarlett
Secret Beach
The girls pretending to be sharks,
I don't know if I like this game.
Uncle Greg and Tanner met us- so did the rain.
Yes, I'm bragging
Kalia's 1st spelling test!
She did the same on the second one too...
Maya in the cheerleading outfit that Kalia made for her,
she also choreographed a routine that Maya gladly
performed.
After Hula Lessons, stamp printing the Pa'u (practice skirts)
The day after my birthday, we headed to the
otherside for soccer gear and Erik took the girls
to Fun Factory, while I got to shop.
One day Kalia decided to have a fabric store and she
created these bolts of fabric. Then created paper money
for Maya and I and then we went to her fabric store
and she cut the fabric for us to purchase- just like the real one!
