OK a quick update from home. Sorry I've been slacking, but there has been some fun waves and Erik and I have actually been surfing! 1st north swells & south swells too! Today he was off and I took off from work and while the girls were at school and in child care, we did something we haven't done in 4 1/2 years - we had a day date. And guess what we did? We surfed all by ourselves, caught a bunch of fun waves and had a blast. Yes, we had big smiles on our faces and since it was both of our 4th day surfing this week, both in pretty good frame of minds. Yea us!
The girls are doing well. Kalia started swim lessons two weeks ago and we are making progress. For those of you who don't know - although we spend a lot of time in at the beach and in the water, Kalia does NOT like water on her face- which makes it difficult to learn to swim. So we have put her in swim lessons and having someone other than one of us teach her has been working. Tuesday was her second lesson and she went under - wasn't totally happy about it, but stayed in the pool to swim after - so definitely making progress! We knew it wouldn't be easy, but she is doing great. It helps that Scarlett is the only other person in the class and she has been taking swim lessons for a year and is a great swimmer! Scarlett has been her little cheerleader - very cute!!!
Maya has entered a very challenging stage - i keep thinking it's her i-teeth (one has finally cut and the other 3 are close), but beginning to think that it's her new personality. 1 1/2 years was my toughest time with Kalia, 2 yrs was fine, but the 1/2 years were tough for me. This girl will put up a fight for everything and is very aggressive and has even gotten in trouble at Celena's for pushing Kyli (who is 3). On the other side, she is talking in full sentences at times and has a real talent for memorizing the words to songs. She will sing the entire CD that I currently have in the car. She has a new dance, where she raises one of her shoulders up and down and does the funniest facial expressions. Maya has been saying, "no, that's mine!" in this low voice and face she makes is pretty scary. She told me the other day, "no mommy, that's my arm!" - when I tried to pick her up. She's really into "mommy, what you doing?" "What's that noise?" and when Erik is at work she says a lot "I want daddy home." Although she is definitely being a mommy's girl right now. Kalia on the other hand is all daddy's girl.
Oh here's the info on the end of our CA trip:
On Sunday we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium with Lo, Vere, Cole & Tutu. It was really fun - the girls had so much fun! The final rounds of competition for the Koga Kup went like this: The top 5 went to the semi-final "spoons" round. The top two from spoons, which ended up being me and Lo went to the final event. The final was a minute to win it game: sorting m&ms. There was a different color m&m under all these rows of cups in front of us and on either side of the long table were 3 cups for each of us. We had to uncover the m&ms in front of us and sort them by color into the cups at the ends of the table. Anyway - I lost by a landslide to Lo. Congrats Lo. Well, there's always next year...
